About

Meet Michael Maurer:

My passion for trains and modeling them is deeply rooted, tracing back to my great-grandfather, a New York Central engineer. This lifelong affinity has seen me actively modeling since 2000. I have been a committed member of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) since 2009 and have contributed my expertise on the Board of the Palmetto Division in Upstate South Carolina. My latest project, the Wood Hog Lumber Co, RR is a testament to my love of the hobby, having been started during the pandemic in 2020 and carefully moved and reconfigured to fit a new space in North Carolina. Professionally, I am employed as an IT analyst at a law firm in Winston Salem, blending technical acuity with my creative pursuits. I currently live in Kernersville, NC, with my wife Amy.  I continue to engage with the train and transportation preservation community as evidenced by my membership at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. I believe my story is one of enduring passion, community involvement, and the seamless blend of personal interests with professional endeavors.
